The print was formed from six photographs taken from the third floor of Waldon House, the guest house of the Royal and Ancient Golf Club. The panoramic view flows 180 degrees from almost due East to West. To the right the scene commences with the old Grand Hotel, an hotel no longer but now used as University Halls of residence. The stark Martyrs monument is seen next up the Scores with the bleak North Sea as a backdrop.

Without a doubt the dominant feature on this side of the print is the Royal and Ancient Golf Club, a magnificent edifice, a fitting place for the home of golf. The bay windows of the club overlook the first tee, a player is teeing up his ball and you can almost see his knees shaking and his hands trembling! Nearby is the eighteenth green where some four hours later his game will finish. The shaded area to the front of this green is the dreaded Valley of Sin where many a second shot has languished. The starters hut beside the ladies tee has recently been taken down and sold and replaced by a fine stone construction. The next building is the caddy masters office.

Then the splendid beach, no sandcastles and paddling children on the day of the photograph, and the graceful curve of the sand draws the eye to the distant coast. Can you see Carnoustie, another Open Championship venue?

I think not but it is there. The dunes beyond the beach must have sheltered many a picnic, they also guard the Jubilee course from the east winds. The new building beside the car parks marks the start of the New and Jubilee courses.

Appearing in front of this building the famous Ladies Putting course can be seen, well named the Himalayas. To the left and beyond the extended Pilmore cottage can be seen the starting point for the Eden and Strathtyrum courses. To the far left the Old Course Hotel overseeing the devilish seventeenth hole graveyard of many a good round. Within the curve of the Swilken Burn lies the first green.
